Artist Statement
I am a Michigan-based mixed-media artist whose work, primarily glass mosaics,
explores identity, spirituality, and the search for light—physical, metaphorical,
psychological, and spiritual. Light is not just my subject; it is the essence of my work.
Using glass—a medium that reflects, refracts, and captures light—I create mosaics that
celebrate its shifting nature through color, texture, movement, and reflection. Each piece
begins as a fully realized painting, which I transform by layering glass, gold, stone, and
angled and chiseled materials that capture, reflect, and redirect light. I think of my
process as both painting with glass and bringing meaningful broken pieces together to
create a cohesive whole. These materials introduce depth and movement, inviting the
viewer’s eye to travel through the work.
Mosaic is both my process and my metaphor—an art of assembly that brings individual,
sometimes broken pieces into harmony. I am drawn to the tension between what is
fractured and what can be made whole. At its core, my work explores resilience,
renewal, beauty, connection, and transformation, reflecting the search for light amid
darkness.
My background in psychology has deepened my understanding of how we carry
memory, loss, identity, and experience. It has also shaped my belief in art’s capacity to
create space for reflection, connection, and healing. In my work, bringing light to
textured and broken surfaces becomes an act of repair, transforming fragments of
material and meaning into something new.
Through my art, I hope to create a dialogue between light and emotion, offering an
immersive experience in color, texture, and reflection. Each piece invites viewers to
pause, look closely, and discover their own connection within the work. In uncertain
times, I hope my art offers a moment of beauty and solace—a reminder that light can be
found, even within what is fractured, if we are willing to search for it.
